Van Phung Truong Son

Fields of interest: partial differential equations and stochastic processes
Education:
- PhD: 2021, Carnegie Mellon University, USA
- Postdoc: 2021-2022, University of Pennsylvania, USA
Bio:
Truong-Son is a mathematician working in the intersection of partial differential equations and stochastic processes. He is interested in mathematically proving observed phenomena or predictions made by scientists and engineers. His PhD work consists of several unrelated projects, each of which stems directly from scientific phenomena such as chemical gelation and heat transfer. For now, on top of thinking about the outstanding questions from his past works, he is exploring mathematical biology and differential game theory.
One of Truong-Son’s dreams is to discover more beauty in math and help students see it themselves, through their own lenses and interpretations. He loves talking about random ideas, mathematical or not. His learning style is by (guided) trial and error. Therefore, when possible, he encourages his students to make mistakes and learn from those mistakes by taking feedback from their peers or experts.
Courses:
- Ideas in mathematics
- Introduction to data analysis
