The 2024 Intellectual Property Summit: Call for Applications

Fulbright University Vietnam invites you to submit your application for the 2024 Intellectual Property (IP) Summit under IP and Technology (tech) Transfer Program (the program), which is a part of “Fueling the Engine of Innovation in the Indo-Pacific region” initiative by the U.S Department of State (Bureau of Oceans and International Environmental and Scientific Affairs).

Event Overview: The 2024 IP Summit serves as an exchange platform for researchers, innovators and IP managers interested in IP commercialization and tech transfer. At this event, participants will showcase their innovative breakthroughs, share insights from their journeys, and discuss practical applications they are implementing or planning to implement. Importantly, it facilitates connections, expands innovation networks within the region, and extends its impact globally.

  • Event Format: An in-person gathering at Fulbright University Vietnam in Ho Chi Minh City.
  • Date: December 4-6, 2024.
  • Coverage: The program covers all costs of airfare, lodging, and meals for participation in required activities during this IP Summit.

Application Process: Interested candidates are requested to adhere to the following steps:

  1. Review the comprehensive eligibility requirements and conditions for application.
  2. Submit your application by 11:59 PM, September 27, 2024 (Vietnam Time).
  3. Check for a confirmation email upon successful submission of your application.

The applicant must not submit more than one application for this trip.

 

Eligibility and Commitments: The 2024 IP Summit is open to applicants holding citizenship of Bangladesh, Bhutan, Burma (Myanmar), Fiji, Sri Lanka, Papua New Guinea, Cambodia, India, Laos, Maldives, Nepal, Thailand, and Vietnam.

  • An applicant must hold a valid passport from one of these countries to be eligible for the summit. If applicants are selected as finalists or alternates, they will be required to submit copies of their passports’ bio pages.
  • A maximum of two fellows will be selected from each eligible country.
  • Applicants must be between the ages of 18 and 60.
  • The applicants are required to have sufficient proficiency in the English language to successfully participate in the summit.
  • Highly qualified applicants will have their own report or presentation on their IP or technology, IP commercialization or tech transfer, and activities of their Technology and Innovation Support Center (TISC)/ Technology Transfer Office (TTO) or a detailed plan to set up one.
  • Participants are required to complete the program’s report and survey form within one month from the last day of the 2024 IP Summit. These are to measure what has been learned as a participant, to assess success and key takeaways from the summit.

Admission Criteria: To be considered for the trip, applicants must meet the following criteria:

1. Applicants should belong to one of the following categories:

* Researchers: Individuals actively engaged in research.

* Innovators: Individuals driving innovation.

* IP Managers: Professionals managing IP matters.

2. Applicants must demonstrate their intent to commercialize research outcomes or transfer green technologies. This can be substantiated by a letter of recommendation from their university or institute, a business plan based on research results or innovation, or a filed patent application.

Alternatively, applicants with existing commercialization can provide evidence such as relevant contracts or agreements, sales reports, etc.

3. Applicants have to show their capacity to establish a TISC/ TTO, evidenced by a detailed plan outlining the steps to set up a TISC/ TTO and a strong network within their country;

For already established TISCs/ TTOs, proof can be provided through their establishment licenses or websites of such offices and centers.

Visa Requirements

            • The applicant must possess a valid passport with an expiration date at least six months beyond the planned return date from the summit and be able to provide a copy of their passport immediately when required.
            • The applicant must be a passport holder/citizen of one of the eligible countries: Bangladesh, Bhutan, Burma (Myanmar), Fiji, Sri Lanka, Papua New Guinea, Cambodia, India, Laos, Maldives, Nepal, Thailand, and Vietnam; and be eligible to travel to Vietnam if selected.
            • The selected participant will enter Vietnam on an appropriate visa and must comply with all visa requirements.
            • The participants are responsible for completing the process to obtain necessary visa before the summit date. If they do not receive their visas at least three weeks prior to the departure date for the summit, they will no longer be eligible to participate.
