
Fulbright University Vietnam is a familiar destination for Vietnamese and international politicians. Recently, on March 9, 2023, Fulbright was delighted to welcome Ms. Melissa Brown, U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary – Bureau of East Asian and Pacific Affairs.
The University administrators walked Ms. Brown through Fulbright’s curriculum that follows the American tradition of liberal arts and science, yet deeply roots in Vietnamese context. Ms. Brown is looking forward to meeting with the first batch of Fulbright students, who will graduate this June.
Following the meeting, the President of the Fulbright Student Council Nguyen Viet Ha (Class of 2024) showed Ms. Brown around the university campus. She also shared her study and some of the topics that interest Fulbright students.
Growing up in Jakarta (Indonesia), Ms. Melissa Brown is a Southeast Asia expert. From 2019 to 2021, Ms. Brown served as the Chargé d’Affaires, a.i., at the U.S. Mission to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in Jakarta, Indonesia. Previously, she was the Counselor for Economic and Political Affairs at U.S. Embassy Singapore from 2016 to 2019. Melissa was also assigned as the Trade and Investment Unit Chief in U.S. Embassy in Jakarta. In Washington, she was also detailed to the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) and served on the U.S. State Department’s Vietnam Desk.
